Hi, my name is Dean and
I am the stutterpsych!

Are you sick and tired of feeling stuck, out of control and not being able to say what you want to say, when you want to say it?  Holding back, avoiding, hiding, substituting words, and being full of anxiety and shame?

As someone who has stuttered for over 50 years I know the pain and struggle of stuttering and am passionate and committed to getting you the results you want.

My focus is always taking the time to understand YOU, where you are at on your stuttering journey and supporting you to take positive and sustainable step using what every strategy or approach necessary.  I can help you discover your life purpose and goals, become an effective communicator and start living life!

About My Approach

When we first meet I want to establish a few tings, firstly exactly where you are at on your stuttering journey, secondly if we would be a good fit, and finally if I can help you to keep progressing, moving forward and growing.

It is very important to find out what you are doing that is making your experience of stuttering worse and focusing on the things you can do that create freedom, flow, spontaneity and self-expression.

Recovery from stuttering is often a long road that takes many different twists and turns.  Even the word “recovery” can mean many different things to different people.  Whether you are working on anxiety, self acceptance, fluency, better communication,  all these things can have a positive impact on your life in some way.  There is always a positive step you can take in this moment!!

Meet Your Biggest Advocate

A message from Stutterpsych Dean Smith.

It is highly likely I have sat exactly where you are right now.  Over the last 50 years I have tried almost everything!!  I am not joking, speech therapy, psychotherapy, acceptance, stuttering pride, hypnosis, Dynamic Stuttering Therapy, McGuire Program, meditation, yoga, smooth speech, breath work, NLP, etc.  Even though these things have all been helpful in some way ultimately I continued to struggle and was not happy with the negative impact stuttering had on my life.  Sometimes I found many of these approaches were more interested in their own agenda and particular method / program than ME and what I needed to grow, learn, and have a better quality of life.  Stuttering is a complicated phenomenon and requires a long term, integrated approach drawing on many different approaches and modalities to help YOU grow and get to where you need to go on your recovery!

What is Recovery Anyway?

Why are there so many answers to this question and why is it so confusion!  I think the answer at least in part is because everyone’s stuttering journey is different and at different stages in that journey recovery can mean different things.  That is why one of the first things we will explored together is what recovery looks like for you in this moment and how can we get there.

"Stuttering is no simple speech impediment. It is a complicated disorder with physical and emotional aspects". Malcolm Fraser
